Product Description

Stimuvax is a therapeutic cancer vaccine in late stage development for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A previous phase IIb trial missed the primary endpoint, and a post-hoc survival analysis by disease stage was also not significant. However, this subset analysis showed a numerically impressive 17.3 month survival trend favoring Stimuvax in patients with less advanced disease (ie, in those with stage IIIB locoregional disease). A pivotal phase III trial is underway to confirm whether the observed survival trend is a true reflection of vaccine activity. If positive, Stimuvax would represent a ground-breaking therapy for locally advanced NSCLC patients, and it would validate the use of immunotherapy in a cancer type thus far considered poorly immunogenic. If negative, Stimuvax will be the latest addition to a long list of cancer vaccines that failed in late-stage development. In this report, we discuss the likelihood of Stimuvax’s success in phase III.
